The offer of a friendly
with the Met Police Bushey, who at present are top of the Herts County
League Premier Division was an added bonus to aid the young reserves' run-in
towards their attempt to get some silverware at the end of the season.
Woods fielded a couple of
trialists and went into the game with the hope that they can rebuild their
confidence after the bad defeat at the hands of Beaconsfield last week. The
early kick off enabled everyone to see where their money went in the Grand
National later.
Met Police started the
brighter of the two sides, but after settling down the reserves played some
good football on a carpet of a pitch. With John Carter and Jon Daily bossing
midfield, and skipper Max Moore back to form and young Tyrone Durrant from
the Under 18s looking strong at the back, things where good.
Chances for the Woods
came thick and fast, but poor finishing was holding them back. All the
forwards were guilty of errors in front of goal, but in the 18th minute
Jerome Cole was put through and made no mistake.
A rare attack by the Met
Police was converted into an equaliser when one of the Woods players was
caught asleep, however Laurie Walters, who had been very competent on the
left flank, got in on the act and restored the lead.
Woods introduced players
from the bench in order to give everyone a chance to show their worth, and
some good football were spoilt by glaring misses in front of goal.
It was
2-1 at half-time, and
with Patrick Lawrence leading the line, the chances were coming thick and fast. Woods
made it 3-1 through Paul Element and the game was virtually over, but the
Met Police reduced the arrears to 3-2 when Mark Britt made a rare mistake.
However,
Patrick Lawrence at last
got on the goal list with a well-taken strike to wrap up the proceedings.
Our thanks go to Met
Police, and this was a nice workout for the young Woods.
